I have read a few reports recently posted by individuals who are leaving Newsvine. I am aslo noticing that seeds and articles seem to attract the same people over and over. I see a screen name, and I know what the post will say. I notice that certain once popular authors appear no more, Dennis McCain, for example.
Do people just get tired and drop away? I would suspect that Dennis got tired of fighting Islamaphobia to little avail (I do too). But I remember the extensive work he did reporting on the revolt in Iran, good, interesting, informative, reporting on events as they happened. I see Physicist Retired bring forth information on climate change while Katheryn Brandy tries to keep us informed on events in the Middle East, especially in Iran. There are others who follow events that should concern us all. It does, however, appear at times that the articles that get attention and comments are those that allow us to scream and yell at each other. We want to debate only, not discuss, not share ideas, but defend our positions at almost any cost.
Perhaps Newsvine is falling victim to technology. Has it lost out to Facebook and other media outlets? Or is my perception that the number of posters and seeders is declining incorrect?
I thought this article might serve as a venue for people to vent any frustrations they have with The Vine. Are there problems you see, things you would like to see corrected? Vent! I do not know if anyone is reading, but maybe....
