Last night non-official voting figures show 64% approved the new Constitution. Yesterday's vote resembled an old Mubarak election with voter intimidation and impartial monitors telling people how to vote. Illiterate voters were given pre-stamped ballots. The list of abuses goes on and on. So much for free and fair elections.
Now the fight will really begin. I do not know what form it will take. Things could ger bloody soon.
Morsy and The Brotherhood would do well to heed Lincoln, "You can fool all of of the people some of the time, and you fool some people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."
Sad part is that had Morsy kept his word about being the president of all Egyptians and not a slave to Badie, The Supreme Guide of The Muslim Brotherhood, he would have had the support of the people of Egypt. Had The Brotherhood allied with the Liberals and not with the Saudi Salafi, he might have actually lead Egypt into a new era of freedom and prosperity. Had he done this, he would have taken the first step toward a possible EU type of Arab unity. Apparently, The Brotherhood believes the future is yesterday.
Now Morsy will probably have the blood of more Muslims on his hands. I hope the EU and IMF take notice. As for the US, it is time for us to recall our ambassador and close our Embassy except for US Consular Services. We should stop ALL aid, including military aid, until there is a real, honest democracy in Egypt. And no there are no strategic reasons that justify us supporting another dictator. Let us, for once, side with the people. (Note that if Egypt were to attack Israel, the High Dam at Aswan would be targeted and there would be no Egypt left, and if Egypt wants to bow to the Russians andChinese, let them. The Suez Canal? It must remain open. Egypt needs the money).
